This video shows the mechanical removal of the separated or delaminated wooden disc on Fritz Hansen Series 7 chairs seat that is still partially stuck in the underside seat recess, or Ants, Lilly or Grand Prix that are MADE BEFORE 2002. Its a removal by woodchisel and hammer, and paint scraper finally. (This is not part of the regular procedure for the repair of the series 7 chair repair kit, only an exception if you have a partial delaminated wooden disc of pré 2002 production) The MOST IMPORTANT THING TO REMEMBER: Never take any more material away than the depth of the three visible circles, this is ground zero, only take away the wood around it. ground zero is the gleu line of the old wooden plate - that is what you need to slowly work towards. The common problem of the released or separated seat of Fritz Hansen made after 2002 with the plastic disc can easily be solved with the 7chairrepair DIY kit. In this video, I show you how to deal with a very unusual exception when using the 7ChairRepair DIY Kit on an older Fritz Hansen Series 7, ANT or Grand Prix chair. *This is not the normal 7ChairRepair repair procedure.* The 7ChairRepair DIY Kit is designed to replace the plastic mounting plates used on later Fritz Hansen chairs, from around 2002 onwards. In the vast majority of cases, the failed plastic plate can simply be removed and the wooden surface cleaned before fitting the new wooden replacement plate. The situation shown in this video is different. On some much older chairs, the mounting plate is made from plywood rather than plastic. Over many years, the original adhesive can become brittle and lose its flexibility. This can cause one or more of the veneer layers that make up the plywood mounting plate to separate. This is an *exceptionally rare problem* compared with the normal Series 7 seat repairs I encounter in my workshop. This additional preparation is therefore only relevant if part of the original wooden mounting plate is still firmly attached to the underside of the seat. The purpose of this video is to show you how to carefully remove the remaining material and old adhesive so that the surface is prepared correctly for the 7ChairRepair DIY Kit. The most important point is this: *the surface must be cleaned flat exactly down to the original glue line — and no deeper.* You are removing the old adhesive and remaining material from the original mounting area. You should not start cutting deeper into the wooden seat itself. Deep gouges, missing wood or an uneven surface can compromise the way the 7ChairRepair replacement plate bonds to the seat. If the original surface has been damaged or material has been removed too deeply, I cannot guarantee the performance of the repair system. For this reason, be realistic about your own woodworking skills. A wood chisel is a precise tool, and if you are not confident using one, do not experiment on your chair. A professional furniture restorer or experienced woodworker can carry out this preparation for you using the instructions in this video. Once the surface has been correctly prepared, the normal 7ChairRepair repair procedure can be followed. The 7ChairRepair system is designed to repair the chair you already own rather than replace the original seat. With the correct preparation, the original Fritz Hansen design can be preserved and the chair can continue to be used for many more years.
