Two Brothers, Two Violins — A Musical Journey This is a rather special and personal project. Many years ago, my father, Dezső Vaghy, and his brother Tibor left communist Hungary in search of a new life in the West. They didn't have much in the way of possessions, but they had their violins, their musical talent, and the determination to make something of themselves. And they certainly did. Both went on to successful careers as classical musicians, including their work with the Vaghy String Quartet. I wanted to tell a little of their story, but not as a serious documentary. Instead, I created a lively Hungarian song celebrating two adventurous brothers who set out into the world with their violins and a dream. The lyrics are in Hungarian, but the story is universal: two brothers, a journey into the unknown, and a lifelong love of music. I hope you enjoy this lighthearted musical tribute to two remarkable musicians. Two violins, and the road ahead! Verse 1 Two brothers set out one morning, They had no money or great fortune. They left the old world behind, With two violins on their backs, they carried on. “Dezső, tell me, where are we going?” “Don't worry, Tibor, we'll make a living somehow!” Two violins, one great adventure, They continued on, making music along the way! Chorus Play on, brother, play some more! Our violins have always been our treasure! Play on, brother, play away! Let the whole world hear us! Verse 2 They arrived far away in the West, But no golden palace was waiting for them. In a little tavern, the music rang out, Everyone clapped, shouting, “Come on, one more!” The waiter danced, the cook sang along, And there, the two brothers became great musicians! Two violins, one great dream, They played their music across seven borders! Chorus Play on, brother, play some more! Our violins have always been our treasure! Play on, brother, play away! Let the whole world hear us! Outro Two brothers, two violins, Hey! What a beautiful life we have! Play on, brother! Play on!
