When designing this residence, our main objective was simple yet challenging: create a contemporary home that remains deeply rooted in its tropical environment. We wanted to honor traditional vernacular architecture—with its sloping clay-tiled roofs, terracotta elements, and natural cooling techniques—while maintaining a clean, modern aesthetic. Notice the material palette here at the front. We relied heavily on earth tones—exposed clay hues, rich timber, and earthy plaster finishes. The brick jaalis on the gable ends and boundary walls aren't just decorative; they allow constant cross-ventilation, letting the structure 'breathe' in this tropical climate while filtering sharp sunlight into soft, rhythmic patterns As you step inside, the transition from exterior to interior feels seamless. In the main living area, we introduced a bold terracotta accent wall with a distressed plaster finish. It anchors the space and reflects the natural warmth from the outside. We chose minimal, low-profile furniture crafted from dark wood and neutral upholstery to keep the room light and uncluttered. The deep window openings with timber louvers give the family control over privacy and lighting throughout the day.
