With Yooka-Laylee Playtonic Games attempted to return to the spotlight back in 2015. Playtonic Games consists of veteran game developers from the legendary studio Rare, which, during the Nintendo 64 times, gave many of us great memories. With games like Donkey Kong Country and Banjo Kazooie they quickly became one of the biggest and most important gaming studios in the world, but sadly they got bought up by Microsoft not long after. Former Rare members then went on to found Playtonic Games many years later, and Yooka Laylee was supposed to be a spiritual successor to Banjo Kazooie. The game's Kickstarter campaign was widely successful and many fans were clearly extremely excited about the return of the studio. In the end, opinions about Yooka Laylee ended up being rather mixed and many people seem to have given up on Playtonic and Yooka Laylee right away. A short time later Yooka Laylee and the Impossible Lair was released and the second game turned out to be much better than the first. Despite the more positive reception things went quiet afterwards for several years until they announced Yooka Replaylee, a remake of the first Yooka Laylee game. Now with the announcement of Super Yooka Laylee Kart a few months ago, Playtonic seems to have gotten a worse reputation, and the long awaited Yooka Laylee 2 is still nowhere to be seen. In this video we'll take a look at the whole story of Playtonic Games and Yooka Laylee and I'll explain to you why the series has sadly fallen quite significantly... #yookalaylee #playtonic
