Virginia Institute of Marine Science Annual Bay Scallop Survey

Scientists at Virginia Institute of Marine Science's Eastern Shore Lab and William & Mary's Batten School of Coastal & Marine Sciences have been working to restore the population of bay scallops in Virginia's coastal bays since 2012. Once locally extinct due to the impacts of seagrass wasting disease in the early 1930s, the species has made an incredible comeback thanks to the largest seagrass restoration effort in the world and may be approaching sustainable levels.
