Bass Boat Out on Lake Michigan in February … Here’s What Happened

Today I put my bass boat to the test on Lake Michigan in the middle of winter. Water temp was 32.6°, ice chunks were floating, and what started as a calm 10 mph south wind quickly turned into 25–30 mph sustained. The goal? Lake Michigan Jumbo Perch. The reality? Big waves, constant spray, and a 7-mile ride back in near-freezing water. This trip reminded me real quick who’s in charge when you’re fishing big water in winter.
