Before there was Peacock, there was pay-per-view. With WrestleMania XL coming up, I'm growing fond of the days not too long ago when you could order WWE's (or WWF's) biggest wrestling extravaganzas from your satellite provider. It was Dish Network for me from WrestleMania XIX through 25.
DirecTV was not to be sneezed at, though, as this video will illustrate. These captures are taken from the time period between September 1996 and November 1997, from someone (not me) with a DirecTV receiver who recorded nearly all of the live broadcasts of WWF pay-per-view events. And who, for prosperity's sake, also wanted to share the experience of what it was like to order said events at the last minute just before the "Free-For-All."
You get a glimpse at what the DirecTV guide and order screen interfaces looked like, the "Special Event" intro, the sounds of waiting for the event to start, and all the other little idiosyncrasies that only a geek could love.
Events showcased:
In Your House: Mind Games
Survivor Series 1996
In Your House: It's Time
Royal Rumble 1997 (no order screen, just the "Special Event" intro and event synopsis)
In Your House: Final Four
WrestleMania 13
In Your House: Revenge of the Taker
King of the Ring 1997
In Your House: Canadian Stampede
SummerSlam 1997
Ground Zero: In Your House
Survivor Series 1997
