Full Game: Circus at the Coliseum | Bulls vs Hornets (December 29, 1992)

The Charlotte Hornets had never solved the Chicago Bulls, and Michael Jordan arrived in North Carolina ready to treat the young franchise like routine business. Before 23,698 fans at the Charlotte Coliseum on December 29, 1992, the hosts staged a spectacle with fireworks and a buzzing hive lowered from the rafters. The delay only annoyed the champions. Chicago converted 19 Charlotte turnovers into 28 points, closing out a 114-103 victory. Jordan logged his 26th career triple-double, recording 28 points, 12 rebounds, 11 assists, three steals, and one block over 42 minutes. Despite a ragged 9-of-25 shooting night, he commanded the floor. Horace Grant provided early punch with 18 of his 20 points in the first half on 9-of-12 shooting, helping Chicago build a 19-point cushion before fourth-quarter boredom let the Hornets cut the deficit to 10. A frightening moment struck late in the second quarter when reserve Scott Williams violently crashed to the hardwood after being inadvertently undercut by Jordan on a drive. Williams went to the hospital amid fears of a spinal fracture, but X-rays showed only a sprained wrist and back strain. An apologetic Jordan admitted he was trying to get rebound position when he clipped Williams, relieved that catastrophe had been averted. Phil Jackson noted that Charlotte had youth and speed, "but some ingredients must come with experience." The result pushed Chicago's winning streak over the Hornets to 17 straight games. For Jordan, the night felt less like theater and more like the daily labor of empire. Excellence was now the baseline, and the grinding toll of chasing a third straight ring awaited on the midnight flight to Miami. #MichaelJordan #ChicagoBulls #CharlotteHornets
