Shows and explanation for how to calculate an adiabatic flame temperature of a fuel if you have already balanced the chemical equation. Obviously, the numerical answer will be no better than the chemical equation that is written. Often, those equations do not contain an adequate number of species (as a result of association/dissociation equilibria) to get very close to a measured value. Interestingly, many different values for the methane example shown can be found online and it takes an experienced eye to determine why they differ – and they differ!
