DESCRIPTION In 2015, crews working on an old building in the heart of Mexico City hit something that wasn't on any map. Under the floor was a tower built from human skulls. This documentary follows the discovery of the Huei Tzompantli, the great skull rack of Tenochtitlan that Spanish conquistadors described 500 years ago and that historians thought had been lost forever. We go from the first skulls exposed during building works on Guatemala Street to the more than 600 skulls uncovered so far, and the surprise that rewrote the story: they weren't only warriors. Among them were women and children. We also look at what DNA and isotope research is now revealing about who these people were and where they came from. Who were the people in the tower: captured warriors, or something else? Tell us what you think in the comments. Some visuals in this video are illustrative reconstructions. This video treats archaeological human remains with respect and is intended for educational purposes. #Aztec #Tenochtitlan #MexicoCity #Archaeology #HueiTzompantli #History #Documentary
