In this experiment I demonstrate how you can refine sterling silver using about half as much nitric acid than your standard nitric boiling process. By refining half of your material with nitric acid, and then using that solution as an electrolyte, you can refine the remaining portion of metal by simple electrolysis with the use of an aspirator filter bottle. The final results proved that I was able to refine 954 grams of sterling silver using 40% less nitric acid.
