My final megacollab is complete. I want to start by thanking everyone involved for making this possible, despite how chaotic of a hosting experience this level turned out to be by the end of it. A special thank you in advance to Peton for being the sole reason this level went from a project I planned to abandon to my magnum opus! Genuinely, I'm so grateful to have had the chance to meet you, and I had the honor of accepting your offer to collaborate. Lastly, shoutout to PlasmaShock, silver, and Demented for being helpful playtesters. While this undoubtedly isn't a level for everyone, there was a genuine effort made to make it generally fairer to play! As a nice gesture, I decided to add some loosely representative icons at the end of the level to show my appreciation. To briefly introduce you to the history of this project: Curare started out as a random, just-for-fun layout I made on my phone back in 2022. At the time, it was a 2.1 layout with green orbs and teleporters, which I later replaced so I could turn it into a 1.9 GDPS level. As implied above, Peton asked me to do a duo collab with him a year after, at that point I had started working on the decoration (which I originally intended to be a solo). Because I noticed I would likely just let the project die otherwise, I suggested we use this layout for the duo. This is where I made a major mistake: I didn't properly structure the level, making it way too open-ended difficulty-wise. Needless to say, the early parts turned out way too easy for how difficult the level would eventually become. I accidentally buffed the layout from what was supposed to be a mid-range Insane Demon to a potential Relentless Tier (just a shot in the dark, I'm clueless on how difficult this level actually is). Eventually, both Peton and I burnt out on the project, making very sparse progress until late 2024, when I made the executive decision to slowly add more people until it became a full-blown megacollab. I want to be honest about some of the negatives before I officially conclude this era of hosting (2019 – 2026). As you could have guessed from the burnout, I honestly never really, at all, enjoyed working on my own parts. After finishing my first part in 2023, my enjoyment progressively went downhill. I pushed myself too hard to build in styles I normally wouldn't just to compete with Peton's incredible work, which ultimately made the process very frustrating. The designs were super difficult to extend and all-around extremely tedious to work with. Unfortunately, I definitely let that frustration get to me sometimes, and I'm not proud of that. Regardless, my second part in the level took me almost two years to finish, and my final part ended up taking two and a half years. To transition into the positives: despite the circumstances and the massive amount of time it took, I do think it was 100% worth it in the end. This is undeniably the best decoration I have ever put out there, and it will likely stay that way forever, since it's absolutely not a process worth repeating if I want to keep enjoying creating. Despite Peton eventually dropping out of the project entirely, I'm incredibly happy with what everyone who followed came up with. The sheer amount of effort and dedication some people put into this really means a lot to me, and I couldn't be more satisfied with the result! While this is my final megacollab, I'm definitely not done with creating yet. I will be taking my time on solo projects and will release one whenever it's ready!
