Wave winging with the surfers at Westpoint Dakhla

This is a very different animal from Dakhla Lagoon. Oum Lamboiur, a.k.a. Foum Labouir, never ceases to amaze me. It’s a magical place whose waves mesmerize me, both on and off the water. Sometimes, the beast shows its teeth. But my overall understanding of the spot and, in particular, the timing of the exit has improved a lot. Still, it takes full focus and quick, decisive action. On the good days around the solar eclipse this August, the swell rolling into the bay reached up to 3 meters high – even in summer. This time, I also spent more time in the point break. Such a marvelous playground all around. Not easy to wing, but an absolute blast when you can make it work.
