Choosing Norfolk was a no-brainer because I got to use my external mic and it was in the hometown. Win/win in my book! Second, I got to see Converge open for them in Nate Newton's homecoming performance. Torche were going to break up after this tour and this was the first (and last) time I'd get to witness them live. R.I.P. I shot this show from the venue balcony 10 feet away from where I shot my CHVRCHES video. I was able to shoot at a better angle and capture the whole stage in my shot. I was also able to capture the P.A. mix with my mic so all I had to manage were volume levels to maintain clarity. The light show was constant. A guy I met at Furnace Fest told me whoever created and coordinated Meshuggah's light shows needed to get compensated well! After recording this set, I confided to my buddy that my video could possibly be nothing but flashing lights, silhouettes of band members and an hour plus Meshuggah soundtrack! Luckily, that wasn't the case and my video came out alright. Their music has always intrigued me and watching them play live answered a lot of questions I had about their performance. So glad this took place in the hometown, too!
