The trail up from Shijōnawate Shrine was laid out by Osaka Prefecture in the early 1930s. The summit was once Iimori Castle, seat of Miyoshi Nagayoshi from 1560 and now a National Historic Site. A statue of Kusunoki Masatsura, who fell at the Battle of Shijōnawate in 1348, stands on the highest point, said to face north towards Sakurai, where he last parted from his father. From the rest stop on the trail, you can see Fukakita Ryokuchi, a park that doubles as a flood basin in heavy rain.
