Brånd / Calvary (Austria/US) - S/T (Split 2021)

A much welcomed split from two hordes that I've always considered to be the most triumphant examples nowadays of mixing Black Metal and Post-Punk, thus perfectly complementing each other on this split 12''. Brånd is the extraordinary project of Vritra (Kringa, Eisenhand, RIB, Alruna, Födweg label), perfectly mixing these two genres with an ecstatic yet melancholic atmosphere, perfectly encapsulating in its spirit the rural beauty and pagan roots of the Alpine lands. This is also Calvary's third output, a duo featuring CF and JW (Grinning Death's Head, Funerary Despair, Masks of Canaan, Fallow Field label). A project that released in 2013 its self-titled debut and in 2019 one of my favorite releases of the year, the demo "Shadow of the Cross". This release sees the band continuing developing the sound of that release, making a dreamy, ethereal type of Black Metal/Post-Punk, perfectly balanced with the simple melancholic clean vocals and beautifully old school synth use. This is a collaborative release between Tour de Garde, Födwegd and Fallow Field, which is back with a new batch after being dormant for close to three years!
