"Am I Tibetan enough?" It's a question many in the Tibetan diaspora ask themselves. In this episode of the Out of Tibet podcast, Tenzyn Zöchbauer, Managing Director of the Tibet Initiative Deutschland, shares her powerful journey from a reluctant teenager to a leading political voice for human rights.
Growing up in Austria's very first Tibetan restaurant, Tenzyn’s heritage was always front and center. But raised by a powerhouse activist mother, teenage Tenzyn often just wanted to be "normal." She opens up about the immense pressure placed on the younger generation, her lingering insecurities about not speaking fluent Tibetan, and the psychological reality of activist burnout.
Today, she faces down a global superpower. We discuss the chilling reality of Chinese transnational repression in Europe, the inspiring cross-movement solidarity during the White Paper protests, and why she chooses to fight for an unseen homeland as a "stubborn optimist."
