Travel far, see the world. In Episode 13 of TradingRight · The Scenic Rail Journey we ride the highest railway in the world, the Qinghai–Tibet Railway, from Xining across the Tibetan Plateau to Lhasa. Twenty-four stops: from Xining and Kumbum Monastery along the north shore of Qinghai Lake and through the Guanjiao Tunnel, by Delingha and the Qarhan Salt Lake to Golmud; into the gorges of the Kunlun and over the Kunlun Pass, across Hoh Xil, home of the Tibetan antelope, over the Chumar River, through the Fenghuoshan Tunnel, the highest railway tunnel on Earth, past the Tuotuo River, source of the Yangtze, and over the Tanggula Pass at 5,072 metres; then along the shore of Tso Na Lake by Nagqu, Damxung and the Yangbajing geothermal field to Lhasa, with the Potala Palace, the Jokhang and the Norbulingka; and finally on to Shigatse and, by bullet train, to Nyingchi. Four chapters explore the history of the line, its engineering on permafrost, life on board and how to ride, and the food of the plateau. More at tradingright.app
