US Postal Inspectors describe how scammers establish relationships with victims before eventually demanding money for supposed taxes, insurance, legal fees and other expenses. Officials also recount cases in which victims continued sending money despite being unable to afford basic necessities. The investigation examines the scale of the crime, including more than 59,000 complaints about the Jamaican lottery scam in 2015 and an estimated US$300 million in losses.
