On April 12, 1945, General Dwight D. Eisenhower toured the newly liberated Ohrdruf concentration camp alongside Generals Patton and Bradley. What he saw left him visibly shaken, and unlike many commanders who might have looked away, Eisenhower insisted on documenting everything. He ordered as many American soldiers as possible to witness the camp firsthand, demanded that local German civilians be marched through to confront what had happened, and pushed for journalists and U.S. congressmen to record the evidence — anticipating that future generations might try to deny it. This is the story of the day Eisenhower faced the true cost of the war he was fighting. #Eisenhower #WW2History #Holocaust
