TIFR GS 2027: MSc/I-PhD/PhD Admissions | Eligibility & Deadline Oct 25

TIFR GS 2027 applications are OPEN! Who can apply for MSc, I-PhD and PhD programs, which subjects are available, what is the eligibility, fellowship and last date? Watch this complete update before applying. Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) has invited applications for its Graduate School (GS-2027) admissions. The programs include PhD and Integrated MSc-PhD (I-PhD) in subjects such as Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science & Learning, Information and Data Sciences, along with PhD programs in Science Education and Physics of Life. The final application deadline is 25 October 2026, 11:00 PM. The TIFR GS-2027 entrance examination is scheduled for Sunday, 13 December 2026. The examination is conducted at multiple centres across India, including Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and other cities. IMPORTANT ELIGIBILITY: Eligibility is NOT simply “BE/ME/BSc/MSc in all subjects.” The qualifying degree depends on the specific TIFR program and subject. For example, the official eligibility information includes different requirements for Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and Computer Science/Learning, Information and Data Sciences. For Computer Science & Learning, Information and Data Sciences, the I-PhD route includes eligible BSc/3-year degrees in relevant CS/ECE/EE-related branches, Mathematics or Physics, as well as eligible 4-year BTech/BE/BSc candidates depending on the prescribed academic criteria. For Biology, the I-PhD route includes Bachelor's degrees in Biology, Physics, Chemistry or Computer Science, as well as eligible 4-year degrees such as BTech, BE, BVSc and BPharm. PhD eligibility includes relevant Master's degrees and specified professional/5-year degrees. For Physics, the official eligibility includes specified BSc/BS/BE/BTech/ME/MTech or equivalent backgrounds for I-PhD, while PhD eligibility includes an MSc/MS or equivalent Physics qualification subject to the prescribed requirements. For Mathematics, the eligibility differs between the PhD and I-PhD programs and the individual centres. TIFR also states that candidates in the final year of their qualifying degree can apply. There is no age-limit or percentage cut-off for registering for the TIFR entrance test, according to the official FAQ. However, candidates must satisfy the eligibility requirements of the specific program to which they seek admission. I-PhD students receive ₹25,000 per month during the first year. After satisfactory performance, this is enhanced to ₹37,000 per month from the second year, and to ₹42,000 after registration for PhD. Hostel accommodation OR HRA is provided as applicable. APPLICATION FEE: The official non-refundable application fee is: • Male candidates – ₹1,000 • Female candidates – ₹500 • Other gender candidates – ₹500 Fee payment is made online through the available payment gateway. Candidates facing financial distress can request a fee waiver by providing the required supporting documentation.
