*THE CAR* A Parable About Partial Truth, Different Teachings, and the Full Picture *Written by Joy Payne* [Verse 1] One hundred builders on a half-lit lot Blueprints split up, each one got what they got I got the wheel, round and plain in my hands Not the whole machine, just the part I was planned Some took the doors, the glass, the steering column Some got the engine, the mirrors, the locks, the bolts on them They moved right away, eager to prove the fit And every one of them got real good at it [Verse 2] They could build it up, tear it down, name every piece Tell you what it does with an engineer's ease Raise the frame, test the speed, patch the wiring clean You’d swear by the sound that they knew what they mean Religion A said, “Look, we built a car” Religion B said, “Ours goes farther, ours goes hard” And both sounded sharp, both sounded true Because they knew the parts they were handed to use [Hook] A piece of truth can be true Without being the whole truth A piece of truth can be true But it still leaves room For the wheel, for the door, for the engine, too For the things you missed just because they weren’t yours A piece of truth can be true Still not the whole truth [Verse 3] I didn’t rush in, I stood back and watched Watched them build their name on the parts they caught Watched them talk like the missing was a myth Like what they never got could never exist One hundred years, then two, then three Then the numbers rolled on into history Folks got slick with the piece they knew So sure of their skill, they stopped looking through [Verse 4] They could carry a body, roll a little while Make it move, make it hum, make it look worthwhile But it only worked inside the shape they made A car with blind spots keeps the truth delayed The wheel wasn’t extra just because they ignored me The engine wasn’t fake just because they did not see Doors and windows, brakes and bolts All of it mattered, all of it’s whole [Hook] A piece of truth can be true Without being the whole truth A piece of truth can be true But it still leaves room For the wheel, for the door, for the engine, too For the things you missed just because they weren’t yours A piece of truth can be true Still not the whole truth [Rap 1] I seen smart people turn a fragment to a fortress Build a whole identity out of what they were allotted Quick with the praise, quick with the blame Quick to call it finished when the fit still ain't the same If you only got the dash, you’ll talk like the whole ride If you only got the key, you might forget what it opens wide Every craft got pride, every hand got skill But skill ain't the same as the map and the will Blueprint in the back, quiet on the shelf Talking to the room before they talked to themselves They made a working thing, I’m not denying that But a working piece is not the finished act [Verse 5] Then I pulled the drawing out, let the lines speak plain Showed them where each part was meant to remain Not to shame their hands, not to waste their work But to show how a small piece can serve something bigger first The missing wasn’t useless, just misunderstood The overlooked belonged like we knew it would And what they called complete had a gap inside A gap that was always there, hidden in pride [Verse 6] Now the room gets quiet when the Blueprint lands Everybody got parts, but none got the whole in hand A hand can be honest and still be blind If it never asks what sits beyond its line So don’t trade your piece for a whole-world claim Don’t confuse your lane with the shape of the frame Keep looking, keep listening, keep the question alive Because what you hold can be real and still need more to arrive [Bridge] I’m not saying the work was nothing I’m saying the work was not the end I’m not saying the hands were lying I’m saying they mistook the bend for the road And the road was wider than their view Wider than what one group knew The Blueprint stood there all along Quietly saying, “Come on, look again.” [Rap 2] Yeah, they argued for centuries, polished their section Turned a gift into a border, turned a part into perfection One got windows, one got gears, one got the wheel in my name Then each built a new “car” and called it by the same It can move, sure, it can haul, sure But don’t tell me a slice is the whole cure The problem wasn’t effort, the problem was closure Deciding what you had was the final exposure Me? I stayed with the plan, stayed with the line Let the years do their talking, let the pattern define When you step back far enough, the pieces start to meet And the truth gets bigger than the hands that made it neat [Hook] A piece of truth can be true Without being the whole truth A piece of truth can be true
