THE TURN OF THE SCREW's 'true nightmare elements': A countdown

Henry James's most popular tale seems to be a favorite BookTube read in October, and while I have avoided discussing James's more well known tales on this channel, I felt it was the right time for a re-read and and an accompanying video. The result is a nearly hourlong ramble on topics variously connected to the novella, most of them rather unpleasant. Proceed with discretion. Finally, because this video will look and seem different than what I usually upload, please note it's because I've recently purchased new gear: an iPhone 18 Pro, a MacBook Pro, a MIDI connector for my digital piano, and a trial subscription to a good video editing suite. What this means is that this video was mostly an experiment to play around with all the new features. 0:00 Musical intro 0:23 Viewer warning 0:45 Michael Chabon and Montague Rhodes James 2:13 "Turn of the Screw" introduction 5:04 Summary of the novella 9:46 Secrets, theories, curiosities -- a countdown 10:26 Number 10 13:49 Number 9 16:21 Number 8 18:19 Number 7 19:36 Number 6 24:39 Number 5 33:01 Number 4 37:53 Number 3 39:37 Number 2 48:08 Number 1 __________________________________________________________ #victober #henryjames #booktube #moorsmurders #truecrimestories #ghoststories #classicliterature #manchester #morrissey #thesmiths #moors #saddleworth
