After catching the Limestone County test, I hopped over to downtown Madison for a bit of railfanning (during which sadly nothing came through) before continuing on over to Chaffee Elementary School to rerecord this Thunderbeam. I'd been considering catching a 2001 somewhere in Madison County for the monthly siren test, but, as Huntsville City Schools is out this week for Fall Break, I decided to take advantage of this school being closed to rerecord this siren instead. Admittedly, I decided to come back here mainly for two reasons:
1. It'd been a hot minute since I last recorded a Thunderbeam, as the previous one I filmed was the one down in Santuck, AL, back in December of 2024.
2. I'd been wanting to see how this one was holding-up, as last I heard the county was planning on replacing it once they got the chance to and it's also the last Thunderbeam siren within Madison County.
Thankfully, this siren fired right on up at noon, and I'm more than happy to report it's still nice and healthy! Decided to also get a closer shot of it this time around, and I'd say it definitely came-out pretty decently. Apologies for any noise in the background, a house directly across the street from where I set-up at had some noisy Halloween decorations put-up at the time. It seems they may have been motion activated, but said motion sensors seem to have been extremely sensitive as they'd seemingly go off whenever a leaf or something was blowing around in the wind anywhere within 50 feet of them.
Admittedly, the fact that I recorded two different siren tests within Huntsville City Limits on the same day yesterday was very much intentional. It'd been something I thought would be fun to get, especially since I'm not aware of too many cities in Alabama, or in the US in general, where there are sirens within their city limits that are tested at different times on the same day.
Madison County, AL tests on the 1st Wednesday of every month at noon, weather permitting. If the test isn't able to be conducted on the 1st Wednesday, it's then delayed to the 2nd Wednesday of the month at noon, weather permitting.
