Fact Check: Did Aichi-Nagoya Announce a Special Prize for Alex Eala? No — Here‘s What Actually Happened
A viral headline claims that the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games announced a special prize for Alex Eala after her loss, and that legends said “she won.” This is not supported by any evidence.
Eala lost to Wang Xiyu, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, in the semifinals on October 1, 2026, settling for her second consecutive Asian Games bronze medal . The match lasted two hours and 34 minutes .
What did happen is that Eala was named to TIME Magazine’s TIME100 Next 2026 list on September 30, 2026 — the day before her loss. She was the only tennis player on the list, selected in the Innovators category .
Rafael Nadal wrote the tribute. “Alexandra Eala was the first player I shared a tennis court with after my retirement,” he wrote. “One day, she asked whether I felt like hitting with her for a while. For the first time in many months, I picked up a racket and played again” .
He praised her growth: “And she still has plenty of room to grow. One of her greatest strengths is precisely her ability to listen, learn, and keep improving” .
And he praised her character: “But perhaps more importantly, Alex remains a wonderful person – warm, approachable, and humble. It isn’t easy to handle becoming a true phenomenon at such a young age, and she deserves a lot of credit for keeping her feet on the ground” .
After the loss, Eala said: “No. I feel like I have no regrets” .
She will continue her season at the WTA 1000 Wuhan Open .
From the cracked courts of Quezon City to center stage at the Asian Games, Alexandra Eala has proven that true champions aren’t those who never fail — they‘re those who, after failing, still choose to fight for their flag.
