This is the MSX version of Jet Set Willy*. I have collected all 83 items and reached the goal: the bedroom. *Note: This playthrough references gameplay by someone who appears to be from Europe, and save states were used.
Although this game was released in Japan in 1985, it seems to have debuted in the UK and elsewhere in 1983. Jet Set Willy appears quite popular on European websites—I used to come across mentions of it in search results over a decade ago—but information is very limited in Japan, where the release was significantly delayed. A game from 1983 hitting the market in the autumn of 1985 would have paled in comparison to other titles available at the time. Perhaps because it didn't sell well in Japan, it now trades at high prices on the secondhand market. Unusually for the MSX, this game comes on an IC card format similar to that of the PC Engine. Hudson released a few other titles in this format as well, such as Yakyuu Kyou*, *Star Force*, and *Pooyan*. Period magazines indicate that these IC cards had a capacity of 16–32 KB. Given that ROM cartridges held up to 64 KB, this novel medium had a distinct disadvantage regarding storage space. One can't help but wonder: if they had utilized the full 64 KB, perhaps they could have included the room names for each screen—which were omitted in this version—or even improved the quality of titles like *Star Force and Takahashi Meijin no Bouken Jima (Adventure Island) to bring them closer to their Famicom counterparts.
