The technique I used on this artwork is patina, and microcement is one of the main materials used to create texture in this style. For this artwork, I used powdered microcement, but you can also use ready-mixed microcement paste. There’s an important tip about preparing wooden panels that I’d like to share with you. Wooden panels, just like raw plaster and cement surfaces, can be highly absorbent. That’s why, for proper surface preparation, it’s better to apply one coat of primer first, and once it’s dry, apply one or two coats of Deco Primer. For this artwork, I started directly with Deco Primer, but I wanted to share the more proper way to prepare the surface so you can achieve better results. One of the most important things for achieving a clean, high-quality finish is allowing enough drying time between each step. Whether you’re preparing the surface or applying texture paste, make sure each layer is completely dry before moving on. Texture pastes usually take longer to dry, so don’t start sanding, applying varnish, or moving on to the next step until you’re sure the paste is completely dry, even in the layers underneath. Another important tip is to sand the surface after each layer of texture paste has completely dried and carefully remove all the sanding dust to prepare the surface for the next step. Materials & Tools Needed for This Artwork: • 5 mm Wooden Panel • Microcement • Concentrated Acrylic-Based Liquid Pigments • Acrylic Paints • Hydro Shine Acrylic Varnish • Palette Knife / Spatula • Trowel • Stencil • Oil-Based Clear Varnish • Oil-Based Paint Thinner • Pearlescent and Copper Powders • Paintbrush • Sandpaper You can find most of these materials and tools on Amazon or other online stores. Personally, I usually buy my materials in person from local paint and hardware stores. If you have any questions about the techniques or materials I used, feel free to ask in the comments or reach out to me by email. I’d also love to hear what you think about this artwork and the techniques I used. Your feedback and suggestions help me create better and more useful tutorials for you.
