Every Warning Siren Explained + Sound

Every Warning Siren Explained + Sound Most sirens still make their note the way a French engineer worked out in 1819, with holes in a spinning rotor chopping the air into puffs, and every siren here sounds the way it does for a reason: the Model 2 on fire station roofs, the two-note 2T22 and its minor third, the Allertor 125, the supercharged Thunderbolt, electronic sirens that talk, the steady Alert and the wavering Attack, Wichita's first tornado warning in 1958, nuclear plant sirens, Britain's Moaning Minnie, Germany's failed first Warning Day, the Dutch test that lasts exactly 1 minute 26 seconds, Japan's 5 p.m. children's song, Hawaii's attack wail and false missile alert, and the Hemi-powered Chrysler siren, the loudest ever built, each with its real sound. 0:00 How a siren makes a note 0:39 1.
