A Sony a7R II transformed into a fully rigged B-camera—in five minutes.
This is the complete build sequence from my longer B-camera video, presented on its own for anyone who just wants to watch the rig come together.
The footage is running at 463% of its original speed. There's nothing magical about that number—it simply matched the timing and rhythm of the music. It turned out to be fast enough to keep the build moving while still being slow enough to see the individual components and how everything fits together.
The finished rig combines an older Sony a7R II with a SIRUI 35mm 1.6x anamorphic lens, SmallRig cage and 15mm rail system, SmallRig F60 follow focus, SmallRig matte box, Viltrox DC-X3 monitor, external power and supporting hardware.
The a7R II may be an older camera, but I'm far more interested in what I can create with the equipment I already own than replacing gear simply because something newer exists.
Sometimes the fun is in building the tool.

I explore cameras, vintage and modern lenses, lighting, image quality, filmmaking techniques and the technology behind the images we create—often through practical experiments and side-by-side comparisons.
Does more expensive gear actually make a better image? Can you see the difference between lenses? How much does bitrate really matter? What happens when decades-old glass meets modern digital cinema?
My background combines nearly 20 years working with precision equipment and system integration in the semiconductor industry with hands-on experience in design, fabrication, photography and filmmaking, including work on several Edge Of Paradise music videos.
I'm not here to tell you what you're supposed to see.
