Most Famous Nihang Singh in Sikh History: In 1818, Maharaja Ranjit Singh's army surrounded Multan Fort for three months and could not break it. The man who finally took it was not a general of the Khalsa army — he was a Nihang Singh named Akali Phula Singh, and he brought 500 warriors who did not fight for land or gold.
This is the story of the 500 Sikh warriors and the Nihang Singh himself who was feared by his own Maharaja, and of the day the Nihang Singhs walked through a breach that a whole army could not open. It is one of the most extraordinary episodes in the history of Punjab — and one of the least told.
We follow the siege from the first failed assault to the fall of Multan, the defeat of Nawab Muzaffar Khan, and the moment Akali Phula Singh was offered any reward he wanted. What he asked for was not wealth. He asked to install the marble in the parikrama of Sri Darbar Sahib — a decision you can still see today when you walk around the Golden Temple.
