Psalm 29 is the most thunderous psalm in scripture — seven times the voice of the LORD strikes, and each time something breaks, bends, or trembles. I took it back to the Hebrew — kol Adonai (the voice that commands creation), oz (raw strength), shalom (not merely peace but wholeness and well-being poured out) — and let the contrast do the work: the storm builds, heaven cries Glory, and then the King on His throne gives not more thunder but shalom. Reggae pulse, deep dub bass, cedar-splitting violin leads, and a hum that never stops worshiping.
[Verse 1 — The Call to Worship] Ascribe to the LORD, O you heavenly beings, you mighty ones in the courts of heaven, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. Ascribe to the LORD the glory that belongs to His name; bow down and worship the LORD clothed in the splendor of His holiness.
[Verse 2 — The Voice Over the Waters] The voice of the LORD thunders over the waters; the God of glory rolls out His thunder, the LORD reigns over the mighty, surging waters.
[Chorus — The Power of His Voice] The voice of the LORD crashes in power; the voice of the LORD resounds in majesty.
[Verse 3 — The Voice Over the Cedars] The voice of the LORD snaps the tall cedars in two; the LORD shatters the great cedars of Lebanon until they leap and skip like a newborn calf, Lebanon and Sirion bounding like a young wild ox.
[Verse 4 — The Voice of Fire and Storm] The voice of the LORD hews out and brandishes flames of fire, splitting the lightning like a sword. The voice of the LORD shakes the desert; the LORD shakes the wilderness of Kadesh until it trembles.
[Verse 5 — The Voice Over the Forests] The voice of the LORD twists the labor pains into the hearts of the does and strips the dense forests bare, laying the thicket open, while in His temple everyone cries out, "Glory!"
[Bridge — The Enthroned King] The LORD has been enthroned above the floodwaters since the days of the great deluge, and the LORD sits on His throne as King forever and ever.
[Final Chorus — The Blessing of Peace] And so the LORD gives strength to His people; the LORD blesses His people not with thunder, but with wholeness, with well-being, with peace.
