But something else escaped with her. “Devil Is Free” is a psychological industrial nu-metal track built around two sides of the same mind: Subject Zero, raw, wounded and fighting to remain herself - and a calm, seductive voice from within that sounds frighteningly familiar. One side crashes through with crushing downtuned guitars, industrial drums and violent stop-start riffs. The other arrives almost gently: acoustic guitar, silence, and a voice that never needs to scream to be dangerous. As the song progresses, those two musical worlds begin to contaminate each other until the line between them becomes almost impossible to see. Is the Devil really another presence?
