The Princess of Wales has visited a women's prison where she met inmates in the mother and baby unit. The trip highlighted that, statistically, 73% of women released from a sentence of less than 12 months re-offend within a year. To tackle the issue, last year Justice Secretary Shabana Mahmood said women shouldn’t be sent to prison at all and unveiled her ambition to reduce the number of female-only facilities.
