Solo 5-Day Backpacking Adventure to Mount Whitney | Horseshoe Meadows to Whitney Portal Join me on a solo five-day backpacking adventure through the High Sierra as I make my way from Horseshoe Meadows to the summit of Mount Whitney, the highest peak in the contiguous United States. This challenging route combines remote wilderness, alpine lakes, high mountain passes, and some of California's most spectacular scenery. From the pass, I continue through the high country and spend the first night camping at Chickenspring Lake, surrounded by the rugged peaks and alpine scenery of the southern Sierra. Day 2 – Chickenspring Lake to Rock Creek After breaking camp, I descend toward Rock Creek, trading the high alpine landscape for a dramatic mountain canyon. This section of the route provides a change of scenery and a chance to settle into the rhythm of a long-distance backpacking trip. Day 3 – Rock Creek to Guitar Lake The third day is a big one. I climb over Guyot Pass, continue through the spectacular high country, and pass through Crabtree Meadow before making my way toward Guitar Lake. With Mount Whitney getting closer, I spend the night at *Guitar Lake*, preparing for the biggest day of the adventure. Day 4 – Summit of Mount Whitney Starting early, I begin the climb toward Mount Whitney, tackling the steep trail toward Trail Crest before making the final push to the summit at 14,505 feet. After taking in the incredible views from the highest point in the contiguous United States, I begin the long descent down the famous *99 Switchbacks*. I continue down to Outpost Camp, where I spend the night after an exhausting and rewarding day in the high country. Day 5 – Outpost Camp to Whitney Portal The final morning starts early as I hike the remaining miles down to Whitney Portal, completing this incredible five-day solo backpacking journey through the Sierra Nevada.
