Aragorn had more chances to take the One Ring than almost anyone else in the story, more claim to it by blood than Frodo ever had, and a King's authority already recognized by the very sword that once cut it from Sauron's own hand. Tolkien himself sat down and answered, in writing, exactly what would have happened if Aragorn had actually done it, and the answer has almost nothing to do with the version of this theory most people already assume is true.
