What is a cell, and why is the cell called the basic unit of life? 🧬🔬
In this lesson, we introduce one of the most important topics in Biology: THE CELL.
Cells are the building blocks of all living organisms, from tiny unicellular organisms such as Amoeba and Euglena to complex multicellular organisms such as humans and plants.
In this lesson, we explore the basic idea of cells and help students understand how cells form the foundation of life.
🧠 In this lesson, you will learn:
✅ What a cell is
✅ Why the cell is called the basic unit of life
✅ The difference between unicellular and multicellular organisms
✅ Examples of unicellular organisms
✅ Examples of multicellular organisms
✅ How cells are organised to form tissues, organs and organ systems
✅ An introduction to the basic structures found in plant and animal cells
✅ Why different parts of a cell have different functions
🔬 Classroom Activities
Throughout the lesson, students are encouraged to think, discuss and answer questions rather than simply listen.
You will also encounter questions such as:
👉 What do all living organisms have in common?
👉 Can one cell carry out all the activities necessary for life?
👉 Why are cells described as the building blocks of living organisms?
This lesson is suitable for secondary school Biology students, Biology beginners, teachers and students preparing for WAEC and NECO examinations.
