Until proven otherwise, here is Shirley Verrett's last documented Recital, (lieder, art songs, Broadway songs, opera) recorded live (the best highlights of this concert). As you can hear, Madame Verrett is 64 here, but she stayed strong enough until the end to treat us to an unexpected Aida as a last gift. Her artistic integrity drove her to confront an arduous Mozart concert aria, and her exuberance to share her Broadway experience with us in Carousel (thanks to an arrangement by Warren Wilson her pianist and friend).
