A Bit More Magic to Return to Disney World | August 14, 2020

A bit more magic to return to Disney World as the Actors' Equity Union agrees to let their members go back to work in the parks. This follows the installation of a COVID 19 testing center on Disney World property near Animal Kingdom, which opened yesterday. US cases still in the 40's-50,000's. US deaths on Tuesday were the highest since May 27 and trending slightly up again. Florida cases just over 8,100 on Wednesday and 6,000 yesterday. That 8,100 was caused by a glitch though. One testing center in Miami Dade sent in seven weeks' worth of tests, 4,000 in total on one day. Deaths in Florida were 276 on tuesday, a new record. Hospitalization stats are still hard to come by. the positive rate is 10-12% and our R Rate is still 0.96. there are 31 states now with an R Rate under 1.00 and Florida ranks #18. ICU bed numbers are around 1,350, almost the same as on Monday. Disney must really need more people in the parks, as it is offering 4-day tickets to Florida residents for just $49 per day. The Disney World park availability calendar is green for August for day ticket holders and resort guests, but Hollywood Studios in unavailable for day ticket holders on Sep 5, and Sep 5 & 6 for resort guests. For Annual Pass holders, the only park available is EPCOT, and that for select mid-week dates. September is variable with some weekdays in the second half of the month having full availability.
