Becoming Climate Journalists | Youth4Capacity & UNV VIE

How can young people use journalism to make climate issues clearer, more accessible, and more impactful? 🌍📰 Climate change is complex, and the way climate stories are communicated can shape how people understand the challenges and take action. Young people can play an important role in telling responsible climate stories, challenging misinformation, and amplifying voices and experiences from the frontlines of climate action. The Becoming Climate Journalists session, organized by the Youth4Capacity programme and the United Nations University’s Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-VIE), explored the role of climate journalism in shaping public understanding and communicating climate issues across media platforms and multilateral climate spaces. Through the session, participants developed foundational skills in climate journalism, including framing, storytelling, and audience engagement. They also explored how to translate complex climate concepts into clear and accessible narratives, considered ethical responsibilities in climate reporting, and learned practical tools for creating articles, social media content, and multimedia stories.
