What are the comfort foods Russians actually grow up with? Not restaurant food - the stuff your mom or babushka made for you, and you still associate with home decades later.
Oladushki and pirozhki from grandma. Syrniki your mom somehow made better than everyone else. Vareniki, blini, golubtsy, and in Siberia it's pelmeni at New Year. And when no one is home it's buterbrody assembled from whatever was in the fridge.
For us, many of these foods come with very specific memories - summers with grandma, holidays with family or tasties childhood moments
