Massive volume of sediments released as the dam spillway gate opens before the storm

The radial spillway gate was opened in advance following forecasts of heavy rainfall to safely manage the reservoir level before large inflows reached the dam. This proactive operation created additional storage capacity, allowing the incoming floodwater to be regulated and released gradually instead of suddenly. The sediment-rich water seen in this video is the result of accumulated silt being carried out with the discharge.
