This Is Why Reaching Pluto Is Almost Impossible

Reaching Pluto took New Horizons 9.5 years, yet it never stopped there. Here's why no spacecraft can simply arrive at this tiny world. The New Horizons mission left Earth as the fastest object ever launched, but with just 176 pounds of fuel and a world too small to catch it, the Pluto flyby could only ever be a single pass. It flew 7,800 miles from Pluto, then spent 15 months sending 6.25 gigabytes of data home at a crawl. The spacecraft also carries a passenger few people mention: the ashes of Clyde Tombaugh, the man who discovered Pluto. 👉 Drop a comment below if this video helped you! 🔔 Subscribe for more from Orbin – tips and tricks on space exploration so you never miss a new video. #Space #NewHorizons #Pluto 💬 Over to you: Should the next Pluto mission stay in orbit, or fly past and keep exploring deeper into space?
