I recently finished Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. To put it very mildly, it was an experience I'll never forget. I won't share any of the story details here just in case you end up playing it. The music is incredible. When I first entered the world map in the game, two cellos started playing this duet that I transcribed for euphonium. I haven't played euphonium for 15 years, but I recently acquired one for the first time ever! It has a beautiful sound, though it has seen better days. It was a humbling experience to pick up an instrument I used to know so well and realize I would have to introduce myself all over again to an old friend that I hoped would remember me. So, with this cover of "Forlorn", I present to you my first creative endeavor since "Wolves on the Mountains of Heaven". My creativity is very, very slowly returning as my wife and I pull ourselves out from under the crushing weight of betrayal by those we once called friends, the trauma of leaving the job we loved and leaving the sending organization and denomination we have been a part of for a very long time. If you are in abusive relationships and organizations, and then decide to leave, you are made to feel worthless, purposeless without those who harmed you and the organizations that used you. But we know who we are. We know what we've seen and experienced. We know that we are image-bearers; our worth cannot and will not be altered or cheapened by the fear-induced, destructive actions of others. We chose to leave. But the cost of leaving is something I can't yet put into words, probably because we're still trying to make our way in the world without the massive support systems we used to have. With the full weight of the word, I confess to you that I am forlorn. Yet there is light. The people that know us and believe our story have stood with us. Some have even incurred their own losses for declaring, along with us, what is broken and in desperate need of the piercing light of revelation. Our story is not over. I hope one day soon to be able to share the entirety of what happened to us and many others between August 2024 and May 2025. But for now, we attempt to rebuild. We made the hardest decision of our lives, at possibly the most difficult moment of our lives, at one of the most chaotic moments in world history. But we believe that doing the right thing at the hardest, least beneficial, least convenient moment shows us what we're really made of. We are very, very sad people right now. But we are not without hope. The notes at the ending of this song are F and C, with no 3rd, which if present would indicate a major or minor chord. And it's the perfect ending to reflect where we are. You almost wish for some sort of third voice to enter to let you know definitively if you're supposed to be crushed or comforted. But it is left ambiguous; the canvas is ready for you to paint the next scene. The sheet of music is ready for you to compose the next measure. We will compose beauty, justice and wholeness in the midst of ashes, thunder and a raging sea. ________________ Thank you ‪@Lorien_Testard‬ for the gift of legendary musical genius you have shared with the world. I am a better person for having listened to what you have composed Thanks as always to ‪@infamoti‬ for his work on mixing and mastering this piece. As always, thank you for listening.
