If your husband has died, and you have a joint bank account. If it's joint with right of survivorship, this account is typically yours, and stays open. You give the bank a certified death certificate, they will take his name off, and the account stays open. If it was in his name only, it freezes, and every automatic payment coming out of it stops, sometimes before you've told the bank anything.
