Su Mudaerji, known as Sumu, became the first Tibetan fighter to compete in the UFC after growing up in the mountains of western China, where his childhood was largely spent helping his family with farm work.
Now a rising flyweight contender, the 27-year-old is targeting a UFC title within three years and hopes to inspire a new generation of young MMA fighters in Tibetan communities and across China.
After a recent victory in Shanghai, Sumu is continuing his push toward the UFC’s top 10 while dreaming of becoming China’s next male UFC champion.
