Deep-Sky Imaging with S50 Pro & S30 Pro | Columbia, MO & Rockwood, TX | 9/6/26

Tonight, I plan to image a variety of deep-sky objects using my Seestar S50 Pro in Columbia, Missouri, while simultaneously operating my Seestar S30 Pro remotely at Starfront Observatories in Rockwood, Texas. One of the things I am particularly interested in comparing is the performance of the Sony OS08B10 sensor in the S50 Pro with the Sony IMX585 sensor in the S30 Pro. This should provide an interesting opportunity to see how the two sensors perform on similar deep-sky targets, particularly in terms of sensitivity, noise, color, and the amount of fine detail each telescope can capture. Of course, this is not a controlled sensor comparison because the telescopes are operating under dramatically different skies. The S50 Pro will be imaging from the light-polluted skies of Columbia, while the S30 Pro will have the advantage of the exceptionally dark skies at Starfront Observatories. That difference should make the comparison even more interesting and provide another demonstration of just how important sky quality can be in astrophotography.
