In August 2026, America's newest aircraft carrier passed its sea trials — and almost nobody noticed. The USS John F. Kennedy (CVN-79) weighs about 100,000 tons, carries two nuclear reactors, cost about $13 billion, and is almost two years late. The Navy needs it so badly that it kept the 50-year-old USS Nimitz in service just to wait for it.
In this documentary, engineer Wei Chen explains how the Ford-class really works — electromagnetic catapults, water-turbine arresting gear, new reactors — why the law demands 11 carriers, what China really has (Fujian, Type 004 and its shipyards), and what could still go wrong.
At the end: the number carved into a coconut shell in 1943 — and why it is the reason this ship exists.
