Indonesia Ship Sinks: Virgo Transport-8 Carrying 243 Sinks in Java Sea | 129 Missing A major maritime tragedy has unfolded in Indonesia’s Java Sea after the Virgo Transport-8 ferry, carrying 243 people including crew members, lost contact and later sank amid severe weather conditions. Reports indicate that the sea was rough, with waves reaching around 10 feet high. The captain had reportedly warned the agent about the bad weather around midnight, while the final communication came around 2 AM when the vessel was said to be tilting to one side. So far, 108 people have reportedly been rescued, while 6 deaths have been confirmed and 129 people remain missing. Indonesia’s navy and hundreds of rescue personnel have been deployed in the massive search operation, with around 12 vessels and helicopters involved in the rescue effort. The ferry had departed from Surabaya for Banjarmasin on Saturday.
