The mega-project aims to radically transform the capital city from a desert landscape into a sustainable, vibrant, and eco-friendly global metropolis, significantly improving the quality of life for its residents. The core features and strategic goals of the Green Riyadh project include: • Massive Afforestation: The project targets planting over 7.5 million trees across Riyadh, increasing the city's green cover from 1.5% to 9.1%. • Climate Regulation: This massive influx of greenery is projected to lower ambient city temperatures by 1.5°C to 2°C and reduce dust and air pollution, fostering cleaner, healthier air. • Widespread Coverage: Tree-planting initiatives span residential neighborhoods, public parks, mosques, schools, universities, healthcare facilities, main roads, and pedestrian walkways. • Sustainable Water Management: To sustain the new green ecosystem without depleting fresh water resources, a massive treated sewage effluent (TSE) network is being built to use recycled water for irrigation. • Encouraging Healthy Lifestyles: By creating extensive shaded walking paths, jogging tracks, and neighborhood parks, the project directly encourages an active outdoor lifestyle for citizens and expats alike. In essence, Green Riyadh is a green lung for the city, marrying modern urban planning with environmental sustainability to position Riyadh among the world's top 100 most livable cities.
