This is Why We LOVE The West Coast

We've spent a lot of time exploring this part of British Columbia, and somehow it never gets old. There's always another road to take, another place to stop, another meal to try and every once in a while we stumble across something that makes us think "how have we never seen this before?" This is what we love about the west coast. It doesn't have to be a big adventure. Sometimes its just finding a beautiful place to camp, eating some good food and seeing where the day will take us....so this weekend let's go see what we can find. Join us for another EAT Camp Play adventure on Vancouver Island as we head to the rugged west coast for a few days of camping, great food, giant trees and some seriously beautiful beaches! Our adventure starts in Port Renfrew, BC, where we set up camp at Pacheedaht Campground right on the west coast. Port Renfrew is one of those Vancouver Island destinations where the journey is just as memorable as the destination, with incredible forests, rugged coastline and plenty of opportunities to get outside. Of course, no EAT Camp Play adventure is complete without finding some good food along the way! We check out Seafoam Seafood, then make our way to First Light Bar & Grill for a bite and a taste of the local food scene. After exploring around Port Renfrew, we head into the forest to hike Jurassic Grove, one of the most impressive old-growth forests on Vancouver Island. Walking among these enormous ancient trees is an experience that really puts the size and age of Vancouver Island's coastal rainforest into perspective. But we're not heading home just yet. We pack up and continue south along the West Coast Road toward Sooke, making our way to China Beach Campground in Juan de Fuca Provincial Park. After setting up camp, we hit the trail and hike down to Second Beach, where the rugged coastline, giant driftwood and crashing Pacific waves provide the perfect way to cap off the trip. From Port Renfrew camping and Pacheedaht Campground, to Vancouver Island food stops, old-growth forests, Jurassic Grove, China Beach and Second Beach, this trip is exactly what EAT Camp Play is all about — finding great places to EAT, CAMP and PLAY around British Columbia. EAT. CAMP. PLAY. Juan De Fuca, British Columbia Canada Fishing is a huge part of life here in Port Renfrew, especially through the spring, summer and into the fall. Salmon are a major draw, with Chinook, and coho bringing anglers out during the summer and fall months, while halibut fishing is generally best from spring through fall. And just offshore is Swiftsure Bank, one of the most famous fishing areas on this part of Vancouver Island. That’s why you’ll see boats heading out of this harbour early in the morning, and guides coming back later in the day with their catch ready to clean.
